A mainstay of our collection, our classic wrapped statement necklace undergoes various colour and stye incarnations throughout the seasons. Designed to evoke the tones, warmth, and comfort of fall, the CLAY Necklace features a black cotton tassel hand wrapped with a combination of variegated cotton yarn dyed with sumi ink, and silk yarn dyed with persimmon tannin on black cotton rope.
In stock. Will ship December 27, 2016.
FIT | Rope is 5/16” (8mm) diameter and measures approx. 30” (76cm) long, with 5 1/2” (14cm) tassel. Slips on easily over head.
COLOURS | Hand dyeing with persimmon tannin (Kakishibu) is a traditional Japanese technique that produces a range of rich wood-toned hues that darken with age, unless washed. Sumizome, or ink-dyeing, is a method of dyeing cotton yarn with sumi ink, which is made from the soot of pine branches and is traditionally used in calligraphy and ink painting.
MATERIALS | Cotton rope, sumi ink-dyed cotton yarn, persimmon-dyed silk yarn.
CARE | Cotton and linen rope can be gently spot cleaned with a mild detergent. However, we advise that you wash any naturally-dyed fibers with caution and care, as it may change the appearance of the natural dye. To keep tassel looking fresh, gently comb every once in awhile with any clean fine-tooth comb.
PLEASE NOTE | Each piece is individually handmade and may vary slightly from the images shown. Please allow for subtle variations of natural materials and dyes.
